Tony’s work is based in a political and social context. He deals with how we as a society, and how he as a person, interact and affect the environment around us. This body of work is founded on questioning and the acknowledgment of change. He states “Our social and personal environments are constantly changing in ways that are sometimes difficult to notice. One day walking to my car I saw a crayon melting in the street. The next day the wax had completely liquefied and was just a green glow in the normally dull asphalt. Within a week the crayon had lost its green wrapper and began to meld with the street.” This crayon helped him to realize nothing is quite what it seems. He uses the camera to change the perceived intent or emotion within a photograph, which inherently challenges authority and our understanding of the world.
